TRISHITA GHOSH INTERIOR ARCHITECT AND DESIGNER
THE ENGLISH CHRONICLE
English Chronicle is a space for writers to write their views and tell their side of the story. The space would encourage amateur writers and established journalists to share their opinion on a variety of topics. It will allow like and unlike minded people to discuss or debate over issues surrounding us. It was essential that the space absorbs the crowd. Therefore, I furthered my research into absorption in plants and looked at how the structure of roots allows the water to flow. This would be a metaphorical guidance where the root is the office space and the water molecules are the writers and journalists who would use the space. Inspired by the curvilinear walls of the epidermis of the root hair cells; I created the walls of The Chronic House. This language has been quite important in the design of the house and I have used it ruthlessly throughout. The original concept was as scattered and randomly placed as the epidermis. However, there was no clear path to the fire exit. Therefore, I developed my concept further to suit the building regulations. The curvilinear architectural language provides the space with a sense of fluidity. The isolated hubs draws people in. The suspended ceiling mirrors the curved walls. Cellular desks encourages people to collaborate and encourages competition. The cellular desks ave built in shelves for books drawing people into the space. Writing desks allow people do work on their own away from those working at the cellular desks. Some people prefer a bit of background noise when they work. Reception area with lounge. Curved furniture enhances the experience of a conversation and absorbs people in.
